The Paws Behind the Story: Mocha the golden heart boy!

‭Hi! My name is Melanie, and my family has always love dogs. Mocha is not our first but second, or maybe third pet! Our first pet was an adopted 8 years old chihuahua and she died of old age at 13 years old.‬ ‭

After a long break, we eventually got a handsome blue-eyes toy poodle, named Milo in 2020. It was unexpected that he was with us merely for 5 days. Milo got seizures on the day we brought him home and we had to return him because we didn’t know what to expect after that episode of seizures and also worried about future medical expenses, in case he was not a healthy dog to begin with.‬ ‭

We felt a void in us, but during the pandemic, the price of doggos were exorbitant! We had to put on hold our desire to go for another one immediately. ‭

On 16.06.2022, during my son’s birthday celebration, we received a call from our contact for pet viewing. We rushed down to take a look at first of the two potential doggos. It was love at first sight with this hyperactive puppy that jumped and licked at whoever carried him. So we welcomed Mocha to our home. ‭

Mocha is 2 years old and 4 months in July. He is our most pampered child at home.‬ He brings so much joy and laughters to my family ;and also playing his role well as the fur therapist to those who in need of comfort and emotional support 😍‬

Q: How do you care for the wellness of your pet, especially if they are prone to any hereditary illness?

Miniature Poodles, like Mocha, are small balls of energy and need lots of exercise. We bring Mocha for regular exercise, 3-4 times daily short walk and do zoomies as much as he wants at the dog park!

I ensure he has a well-balanced diet, rotates his food regularly and provides with daily intake of supplements for good gut and stomach, healthy bones and joints, healthy coat and skin for overall benefits and good wellbeing! As a dog therapist, he has to stay healthy so that he doesn’t carry any germs or skin diseases when he visits the residents at the Nursing Homes or Special Needs Facilities.

Because poodles also smart dog, we always have interactive games and teach Mocha new tricks to stimulate his mind.

We acknowledge there are potential health issues with poodles, as this breed is prone to joint issues such as Luxating Patella and Hip Dysplasia. So Mocha gets his regular checkups and annual vaccination. Prevention is better than cure!

We are looking into getting a reasonably priced insurance that offers comprehensive coverage, to prepare for unexpected events and his old age.

Q: What do you look out for when considering a pet insurance?

When choosing a pet insurance, it is essential to consider the coverage options available. Common coverage includes accidents, illnesses, hereditary conditions, third party liability and funeral expenses. We should evaluate our pet’s needs and choose a plan that offers comprehensive coverage. We should carefully review the policy’s exclusions and limitations to ensure we have a policy to cover common illnesses that prone to the breed of our pets.

Make it a point to do our homework to compare premiums, deductibles, and reimbursement rates from different insurance providers to find a plan that fits our budget

Q: If you have checked out Happy Tail, what do you like the most about the policy?

I read miniature poodle like Mocha is prone to joint issues such as Luxating Patella and Hip Dysplasia. Luxating Patella sometimes called a trick knee, a condition in which the patella, or kneecap, dislocates or moves out of its normal location. Hip Dysplasia happens when a poodle’s hip joint becomes weak or deteriorates.

As an hyper and playful dog, Mocha loves to jump from bed to bed everyday; especially when he plays hide-and-seek with hoomans! He has no fear about jumping down from above a meter height place! He enjoys running fast in the dog parks and being chased by other doggos! It’s so fun to watch but at the same time we also started to develop our worries, what if he injured himself during or after the plays, worst still joint/hip issues develop at his senior age due to old injuries.

I learnt to know that AON Happy Tails® pet insurances covers a wide range of illnesses including both conditions mentioned above, as well as eye problems like cataract and glaucoma that common among poodles. Happy Tails® is also the only standalone online pet insurance in Singapore that provides lifetime coverage for pets, including specified hereditary and congenital conditions.

Hence, for dog owners who are extremely concerned about their dog’s safety, it is wise to consider to cover your pet with Happy Tails® pet insurance when they are still young and before they even being diagnosed.
